The I in bicycle

Unbekannt - Unknown

This bicycle was bought for €254 on buycycle (web archive) mostly to get parts for another bicycle build, and also for the frame size/suspension fork looked like they could fit a friend well. In the end it was more of an impulse purchase.

The carbon frame maker and model are unknown, the size seems to be a 18.5"/L. When I started working on the bike a few things stood out, the crankset was missing the crankarm fixing bolt (part Y-1H5 98040), and the brake callipers were kind of stuck. As I soon found out, it’s not possible to remove the left crankarm without the crankarm fixing bolt, and the crankarm fixing bolt seems to be made out of unobtanium. I bought (€37,92) the crankarm installation tool (TL-FC35) and tried multiple strategies, but to no avail. So I had to procure (€74) another Shimano XTR FC-M760 crankset, which in turn was missing the adjust nut (Y-1H5 16000/15000). So by now I’ve spent around €328 for a set of wheels, a front and rear derailleur, the promise of a crankset, a suspension fork, and timeless mechanical brake calipers.

Repairing the brake calipers was easy, as well as replacing all the cables and housing. By far the hardest part was finding the parts just to be able to remove the crankset. I took the parts I wanted for another bike (derailleurs, crankset(!), wheels) and picked some parts from the parts bin to bring it back to life.

Now let’s see what’s next in line for this bike! :-)
