Some might say this was my first Mountain Bike. Purchased second-hand in June or July 2007, it had a very light “Scandium” frame (SC7000 alloy (web archive)), a Rockshox SID Dual-Air suspension fork, Shimano XT drivetrain, V-Brakes which were replaced by Magura HS33 brakes eventually.
Sorry for the awful pictures. As you can see in the last picture, at some point in time I converted it to single-speed. Don’t ask me why though, as I can’t recall what drove me to do it. I really like the simplicity of single-speed, but I was riding this bike uphill a lot, that’s for sure. Apart from the conversion to single-speed, this bike had two nice additions, 1/ headset spacer with bottle opener 2/ handlebar end plugs with bottle caps, clearly this accessories went hand-in-hand.
Unfortunately it had an early demise (from my life), as it was stolen from my garage on April 2012. Unlike my Scott Purgatory, the Kona was using a proper lock/chain. On the night it was stolen, I was using my commuter bike, so there was one less U-lock in-place. But still, it was locked!! :-(
