The I in bicycle

Scott Purgatory - 2001

This was my first (mountain) bike! It was lent to me late 2006 or early 2007, and it had a profound impact on my life. It was with it that I started mountain biking and a few months later commuting by bicycle. I had been looking for a bicycle for some time in 2006, so it was likely a matter of time.

By June 2007, I had bought a second hand Kona Kula Primo, a lightweight bike with a proper suspension fork and kind of modern equipment. So I quickly converted the Scott Purgatory to a commuter bike (and also to single-speed). I got rid of the heavy suspension and replaced the rear wheel as I think the rear-axle was kind of broken. Got a used (9-speed?) cassette and chose the gearing based on whatever provided the best chain tension I guess. So I got this hard-tail geared mountain bike converted to a full-rigid single-speed commuter.

Unfortunately, due to a naive approach with regard to property safety inside a private parking area, this bike was stolen. The cable lock was (easily) cut by a bicycle burglar and I lost my commuter bike.

This bike must’ve been popular in Eastern Europe, as nowadays most of the references I find about it online are from .hr, .lv, .sk, … websites.
